You can quickly and easily achieve straight hair with a flat iron in the convenience of your own home. I have baby fine hair that is naturally wavy. My hair still has waves even when I try to blow dry it straight. So I like to use a flat iron not only to straighten my hair, but to also add some bounce and shine. I recently got the opportunity to try Gurin’s Professional Salon Model Flat Iron. This is a great flat iron with lots of excellent features. It left my hair glossy and straight but with some lift.

Gurin’s Flat Iron is black with diamond-etched handles. The diamond etching helps to get a good grip on the flat iron without it constantly sliding out of your hands. It’s heavy and very sturdy. The on/off button and the temperature controls are on the inside of the handle which is great so you don’t accidentally hit the buttons when styling your hair. It also has a swivel cord so it’s easier to manage. It will allow you to move and flip around your flat iron without tangling or messing up the cord. Another great feature of this flat iron is the floating plates. They make it easier to get a tight clamp on the hair and also makes it easier to do flips and curls with the flat iron.

Ceramic Flat Irons are known to be the best straighteners that do the least amount of damage to your hair. The ceramic plates allow for even heat distribution. This will help prevent burning or damaging your hair. Not only do they provide an even distribution of heat, they also prevent static electricity, and smooth and seal the cuticles of the hair. So it will eliminate frizz and add shine to your hair.

This flat iron also has tourmaline which is a crystalline mineral that is crushed into a fine powder and infused into the metal plates. The tourmaline provides a very high output of negative ions which help create extremely sleek, shiny hair.

Old, traditional flat irons use Near Infrared Rays (NIR). With NIR, the surface of the hair gets hotter than the interior, and the interior gets heated by conduction from the surface. This process causes damage to the hair making it dry and frizzy. This is something you definitely want to avoid. Gurin uses Far Infrared Rays (FIR). With FIR technology, water molecules from the hair are absorbed to the inner core. So the moisture is locked in place with a protective barrier which helps to reduce frizz and make the hair shiny and healthy. This helps the hair to be heated gently and evenly from the inside out. The FIR helps to smooth and seal an open hair cuticle causing silky, shiny, straight hair.

SUGGESTED TEMPS
Fine and Damaged Hair – below 300 degrees
Normal Hair – 300-380 degrees
Thick, Coarse or Extra Curly Hair – 350-400 degrees

STYLING TIPS

STRAIGHTEN – Adjust the setting to the appropriate temperature for your hair. Divide your hair into several sections and clip the upper layers on top of your head. Work with the layers underneath first. Take each individual section, starting from the roots, and slide the straightener down the entire hair strand. Be sure not to clamp too firmly as this will create ridges or creases. Keep the iron moving to avoid damage to the hair. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you may need to run the flat iron over the section several times.

SOFT CURLS – Insert a 2” section of hair between the plates. Then squeeze the handle tongs together and glide iron slowly through the hair from the roots to the ends. Wind the hair around the plates and hold before releasing.

FLIP OUT – Insert a 2” section off hair between the plates. Squeeze the handle tongs together and glide the iron slowly towards the ends. When the ends are reached, turn the iron slightly outwards to flip out the ends.

CURL IN – Insert a 2” section of hair between the plates. Then squeeze the handle tongs together and glide the iron slowly towards the ends. When the ends are reached, turn the iron slightly inwards to give a cute curl at the ends.
