Some people may think I am crazy, but I am very picky when it comes to my pots and pans. I threaten my husband all the time about using mine. He has a tendency to always scratch my pans. So I have to designate “his” and “her” pots and pans. Well, that does not always work out so well. I was so excited when I found out that I would get the opportunity to try this Green Earth Textured Pan by Ozeri. I had to threaten my husband with this one for sure.
When I got my package, I was so excited. The pan is a cute lime green color and comes with a pan protector. The pan protector is designed to help protect the surface and coating of the frying pan while being stored. You simply place the pan protector on the surface of the pan prior to stacking another pan on top it.
I also noticed how heavy and sturdy the frying pan was. This pan is made of heavy gauge die-cast aluminum that allows for more even heating, preventing hot spots. It has a magnetized bottom for rapid heat transfer on induction stoves, and a heat-resistant silicone coated handle.
The Green Earth Textured Pan features Greblon, an ultra-safe ceramic coating derived from nature which is 100% PFOA and PTFE free. It delivers a non-stick performance without releasing harmful fumes or toxins at high temperature. Greblon is manufactured by the German company Weilburger Coatings Group Grebe. They have won several awards by independent organization such as Consumer Reports, Rad & Results, Ökotest and Stiftung Warentest. Greblon ceramic cookwares are a healthy choice and environmentally friendly. The ceramic coating is very easy to clean and resistant to heat, to erosion, scratches or scrapes. It is safe to cook on, without worries of any teflon or other non-stick coating coming off or releasing chemicals into the air and making you food or home toxic. With better non-stick properties, the Green Earth Pan allows you to saute, fry, bake, boil and braise with as little as half the amount of oil normally used. The elevations of the textured cooking surface create air pockets which distribute heat underneath food to enhance cooking performance.
So what is PFOA and PTFE?
PFOA, or Perfluorooctanoic Acid, is the substance that adheres non-stick coatings to pans, while PTFE, Polytetrafluorethylene, is that coating itself, better know by its brand name, Teflon. These are two chemicals that have finally caught the attention of medical researchers and public health officials. They are stable compounds used in a large variety of products that seem to make our life a bit easier, even though it is not healthy for us. Their presence in the environment raise concern on human health. If cookware that contain these toxins exceed temperatures, the coating will break apart and emits toxic particles and gases that are linked to an unknown number of human illnesses annually.
I decided to cook something basic for my first use. I made taco meat in the Green Earth Pan. It cooked the meat evenly and a bit faster than normal. I didn’t have any issues with the meat sticking and there were no scratch marks left on the pan. The cleaning was super easy. I used a soft sponge and it came clean within seconds. I really enjoy using this pan and it made my cooking experience a lot more fun. I loved not having such a hassle trying to scrub a pan to get clean. Even after threatening my husband that he couldn’t use this, I believe that he really could not mess up this pan. I’m not going to give him that opportunity though. I decided to store my pan in a different area so he could not find it. This is something that I don’t think I want to share. I love this pan so much, I can’t wait to order me a larger one.
If you want a PFOA-free and PTFE-free cookware option without sacrificing quality, this is the perfect option for you. This would also be an exceptional gift option for any occasion.
I received this product for free in exchange for sharing my honest opinion. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
