Like most women, you probably do a simple daily skincare routine. You may feel so rushed in the mornings and then totally exhausted at night that you don’t even realize that you’re neglecting your skin. If you’re simply just washing your face and slapping on a moisturizer, then you’re missing out on many opportunities to enhance your natural beauty. There’s no better time than now to take care of your skin. No matter what age, this is a necessity!
I’m sharing my step-by-step beauty regimen on how to get the best benefits from an at-home microdermabrasion with other beauty products to enhance your natural beauty by rejuvenating your skin. Your skin care routine is super personal, so it’s best to focus less on how many steps you have and more on which steps are right for your skin type.
1. Gentle Facial Cleanser
You should always begin your beauty regimen with a fresh clean face. Choose a cleanser that’s best for your skin type. A creamy cleanser is great for dry skin and on oil-free cleaner is good for oily skin. I have combination skin and I like to use the Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash. This is great for all skin types, even sensitive skin. It’s 100% soap-free so it removes dirt, oil, and makeup without stripping or drying your skin of its natural, hydrating oils. This cleanser is available in a cleansing bar or cleansing gel in a pump bottle. Be sure to wash your face with warm or cool water. Hot water can strip away your skin’s natural moisture. After cleansing, pat dry, don’t rub.
2. At-Home Microdermabrasion
Don’t let the word microdermabrasion scare you! It’s actually one of the gentlest, fastest, non-invasive anti-aging treatments around today. Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that exfoliates and removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells. It softens fine lines and wrinkles, smooths coarsely textured skin, decreases the appearance of shallow scars, decreases pore size, and reduces superficial hyper-pigmentation, also known as age spots. It also makes it easier for high-tech serums and skin care products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. This helps to build collagen, which gives skin its plump, youthful appearance.
On average, microdermabrasion costs range from $75 and $200 per session. You may need between five and 12 treatments, spaced two to three weeks apart plus periodic maintenance treatments. Unfortunately, this can get costly. This is why I suggest using an at-home microdermabrasion system such as the MicrodermMD by Trophy Skin. I’ve been using this system for over 6 weeks and I’m loving it. I’ve been able to fit this into my beauty routine every two to three days. It literally takes around 5 minutes per session. You can read At-Home Microdermabrasion Skin Care Treatment with MicrodermMD to learn more about what MicrodermMD is and how to use it.
After thoroughly washing my face, I use the MicrodermMD system. I use the auto mode with the diamond tip to treat my face and neck. I found that I like the auto mode versus the manual mode better. The large LCD walks you through each step and it takes around 5 minutes. The cleaning process is simple and takes less than a minute. After the treatment, I splash my face with cool water to remove the dead skin cells and pat dry. I’ve seen amazing results with the fine lines around my eyes. It may be hard to tell in the photos but my skin is definitely firmer and super smooth. I’m amazed at all the dirt and grime that’s on my face in just a couple of days. MicrodermMD is able to deeply exfoliate my skin, buff away dull patches, polish and revitalize my skin to improve skincare absorption for radiant skin. You know it works when you’re husband asks what happened to your wrinkles and says that you look younger! I will definitely be keeping MicrodermMD in my weekly beauty regimen.
3. Facial Toner
Taking care of our skin is more than a simple wash. After cleansing, you may notice that your skin is too dry or too oily. Adding a toner to your regimen may help solve this problem while giving you more vibrant, healthy skin in the process. It’s also an effective beauty product that is designed to restore your skins natural pH levels while shrinking your pores.
After the microdermabrasion and rewashing your face, you should follow up with a good Toner. Each type of toner is intended for a different skin issue, so it’s important to use the right kind for your skin concern. Make sure you look for alcohol-free toners, as alcohol can severely dry out your skin, especially if it’s already dry to begin with. My favorite toner is Neutrogena’s Alcohol-Free Toner. This toner refreshes skin without stripping its own natural moisturizers. So you can get a clean, refreshing toning experience without the harsh drying effects of alcohol. Plus, the special mild purifiers gently remove impurities and reconditions skin. Simply apply a small amount of toner to a cotton ball or pad and apply to your face in gentle upward strokes. Let the toner sit on your face and dry naturally.
4. Face Serum
Face serums tackle your specific skin concerns head-on. They are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin. It’s the ideal skin-perfecting step to target dull skin, large pores, pigmentation, wrinkles, and acne. Serums help soften the visible signs of aging for healthier, younger-looking skin.
My favorite serum is the Arbonne RE9 Advanced Intensive Renewal Serum. It has advanced peptides, antioxidants and essential botanicals that work synergistically within the formula to hold in moisture and help enhance the look of skin smoothness and firmness. This serum improves texture and has excellent anti-aging results.
You should begin by applying tiny dots of serum all over your face and blend lightly. Serums are usually formulated with a higher concentration of active ingredients so a few drops are sufficient to cover the entire face. Many people think that if they use more, they’ll get better results which are not true. Your skin can only absorb so much as it acts like a sponge in that it takes in all that it can. As a result, whatever product is leftover may just sit on top of the skin. Be sure to use short light but firm strokes when applying the serum to your face. Do not stretch, pull or rub the skin.
5. Eye Cream
The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate, which means you should treat it with delicate care. Choose an eye cream based on how dry the skin around your eyes are and on other concerns you might have such as wrinkles, dark circles, or puffiness. A good eye cream will provide the area with extra hydration and protection. Regular use of eye cream over time will keep the eyelid skin elastic and will improve or prevent fine lines or collagen loss.
One of my favorite eye creams is the Arbonne RE9 Advanced Corrective Eye Cream. It provides a deep hydration that locks in moisture to help reduce the look of fine lines and deep wrinkles. The caffeine helps diminish the appearance of puffiness and dark circles through hydration while olive squalane provides moisturization to help nourish the delicate eye area for a youthful-looking glow.
6. Face Moisturizer
A daily use of moisturizers will improve your skin’s appearance, helping to keep it feeling smooth, plumped, and soft. Face lotions and creams create a barrier on top of the skin to keep all that “good stuff” in. When you apply a moisturizer to your face, it plumps up the skin which helps to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It also protects the skin from the various effects of weather, like heat and wind. Most importantly, moisturizers increase the water content of your skin in order to keep it hydrated. Try keeping your moisturizer in the refrigerator. When you apply it cold, it pushes blood away from the skin. In the process, this creates a vacuum effect to pull the potent serum ingredients deeper into the skin.
Some moisturizers are designed for older skin, to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. While other moisturizers may contain extra ingredients that help with certain conditions, like acne. Before selecting a moisturizer, think about any specific situations you may want to address. My absolute favorite moisturizer is the Cre8Skin Salmon Oil Cream. This is an all-in-one care for wrinkles, skin elasticity, skin tone, extreme dryness, and skin texture. In addition to functional whitening and wrinkle enhancement, this high-quality cream is excellent for prevention of dark circles, spots, and freckles due to the salmon’s characteristic properties. I’ve seen amazing results in my overall skin texture. It’s provided superb hydration along with diminishing fine lines and dark circles.
Most experts recommend a simple cleanser, toner, light moisturizer or day cream as your daily routine. At night is when you load up on skin care products. Developing a more advanced skin care routine may take some experimentation to discover which method and frequency of application works best for you. You don’t have to apply every anti-aging product in your routine every single day as alternating different products on different days can work great. Applying your skin care products in the proper order ensures that your skin receives the full benefits of each product. Aside from the order of application, it’s also important to consider the time it takes for your skin to absorb your products. The science behind skin-care products has come a long way but there’s still no such thing as an instant fix. You need time to reap the benefits so you shouldn’t wait to take care of your skin!
